The School of Societal Sciences (SSS) is the graduate research school of Ubuntu University of Tanzania. It advances research and knowledge addressing major societal challenges and contributing to policy, practice and human flourishing.
Rather than being organised around conventional disciplinary departments, SSS brings researchers together around significant societal challenges. This enables research questions to draw on different bodies of knowledge while remaining connected to the realities they seek to understand and transform.
OUR RESEARCH LOGIC
Societal Challenge → Research Area → Research Programme → Research Project → Graduate Research → Knowledge → Policy/Practice
Research at SSS may contribute to a graduate qualification, scholarly publication, policy and practice, or a combination of these outcomes.
RESEARCH AREAS
SSS currently organises its research around seven interconnected areas:

RRESEARCH PATHWAYS
Research within SSS can develop through two complementary pathways.

RESEARCH, KNOWLEDGE & COLLABORATION
SSS seeks to build an active research community connecting graduate researchers, scholars, institutions and practitioners. Research is understood not only as an academic activity, but also as a process through which knowledge is created, debated, published, shared and translated into policy and practice.
The School welcomes collaboration with universities, research institutes, scholars and other academic and research institutions in Tanzania, across Africa and internationally. Collaboration may include joint research, research networks, co-supervision, visiting researchers and scholars, seminars and conferences, joint publications and knowledge exchange.

SUBMIT RESEARCH INTEREST
Researchers and prospective graduate researchers may submit an initial research interest without immediately making a formal application.
