The Katoki Institute for Ubuntu Leadership (KIUL) is a specialised institute of Ubuntu University of Tanzania dedicated to strengthening leadership within community-based organisations (CBOs), non-governmental organisations (NGOs), companies and parastatals.

Grounded in Ubuntu and human flourishing, KIUL approaches leadership not simply as the capability of individual leaders, but as an organisational responsibility. Its concern is how organisations develop leaders, transmit leadership knowledge and values, navigate leadership transitions and sustain effective leadership across generations.

We live by Developing leaders, Strengthening organisations, and Sustain leadership.

OUR LEADERSHIP LOGIC

Develop → Mentor → Preserve → Converse

KIUL connects leadership development with mentorship, leadership legacy and sustained dialogue to strengthen leadership capability and continuity within organisations.

WHAT WE DO

KIUL organises its work around four interconnected pillars.

Strengthening leadership capability within CBOs, NGOs, companies and parastatals through training, workshops and organisational leadership development.

Connecting emerging and practising leaders with experienced leadership through mentorship, accompaniment and intergenerational learning, helping organisations develop leadership from within.

Documenting leadership lives, experiences and lessons while helping organisations strengthen succession, institutional memory, values continuity and leadership transition. This includes biographies and life histories of leaders as sources of leadership knowledge and organisational learning.

Creating spaces where leaders, practitioners, scholars and organisations can exchange experience, interrogate leadership challenges and develop new thinking about leadership and organisational sustainability. Leadership Conversations may include talks, seminars, conferences, public lectures, roundtables, panels and other forms of dialogue.

ENGAGE WITH KIUL

KIUL works particularly with:

Community-Based Organisations (CBOs) | Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) | Companies | Parastatals

Engagement may involve leadership development, mentorship, succession and transition, leadership documentation, workshops, research, seminars, conferences and other forms of institutional collaboration.

KIUL seeks not merely to develop individual leaders, but to help organisations build the leadership capability, relationships, knowledge and continuity necessary to remain effective beyond individual office-holders.
